Big Up the Doric

Ica and I met on twitter in 2018 and in person on the 5th November that year as he had invited me to be the first guest on his Creative-me Podcast.

Over the next few years we kept in touch and our paths crossed at many a pop up as I kept going with Doric Skateboards and Ica started his own clothing brand Big Up the Deen. During that time we both collaborated with many local artist on various projects but it wasn’t really until 2020 that we committed to doing something with each other.

2020 came and we all know what happened. So lets skip forward a little. December 2020 allowed us to collaborate on something. Look Again Aberdeen kindly allowed us to use a window in a shop unit for some marketing/publicity for us. It was during that time standing in that empty unit that we dreamed of having a space like that for a day, 2 days a few days maybe? What would we do?

Use it as a springboard for our collaboration.

And so 9th December 2021 we are opening the doors on that very unit in Aberdeen’s St Andrew Street for a launch night and pop up for that weekend. And we are obviously delighted.!

And so whats the collaboration about?

It’s about you. Me. Us. Everyone who has inspired us, supported us and some that we simply admire. Each and every one of them (and many others!) do things in our city that make a difference. They brighten up our streets, our minds, our social media feeds. They stimulate us, challenge us and we wanted to pay homage to that.

It’s also about our relationship with the press. We often criticise local press for being doom merchants. But at the same time when they share/write anything that could be described as positive we line up and throw scorn on it. Nothings ever enough. Nothings ever perfect. But we see those that are trying.

From the institutions, charities and organisations to the retailers, crafters, printers, artists and writers we hope with this collaboration will throw a spotlight on someone that you didn’t know about. It’s not about increasing someone’s social media or clout chasing by us. Its just an acknowledgement by two people that we are pretty proud of our home city, and we believe you should be too.

So join us at our Pop Up.!

Launch Night Thursday 9th December 6-8:30pm  (some drinks will hopefully be on the go!)

Then the Pop Up Continues:

·         Friday 10th December 10-6pm

·         Saturday 11th December 10-6pm

·         Sunday 12th December 11-5pm

We’ll be selling the full range including Skate Decks, Tees, Prints and Tote Bags plus we will both have our own full range of Doric Skateboards and Big up the Deen merch available.!

And of course. The full reveal for our design will go Live that day.
